Estate Agent Fees
In the UK when selling or buying a property trough an estate agent a fee are paid by the vendor once the sale has been completed. This fee ranges usually between 1.5% and 3% of the sale price depending whether the agent has sole selling rights or you are selling trough several agencies. Most estate agents have a no sale, no fee arrangements in place where you don’t pay anything if the sale doesn’t go trough.
Opting to work with only one estate agent is the cheaper option. The percentage of the fee in this case will be something in the region of one and two per cent.
Opting to list your property on multiple agencies will cost you between 2 and 3.5 percent but will work better if you want to achieve a quick sale.
Choose a business that is a member of the Ombudsman for Estate Agents (OEA) Scheme – if things don’t go so well this scheme can help you pursue your agent for compensation.
